Arcana Unleashed Magical Item Prices

At first glance, it looks like Arcana Unleashed contains quite a few new items. While it does have a lot, many of them are variations on a few items created by the new “Evolving magic items” system.

Evolving items start out as low powered magical items. Later, they advance to higher-powered items at the DM’s discretion, based upon achievements in-game. The Arcana Unleashed touts this as a way to keep a player’s beloved magical item in the game after character progression has caused the item to become undesirable. This looks a bit like Dragon’s Wrath Weapons from Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons.

I’m still puzzling through how to price these items from Arcana Unleashed. This system of item advancement doesn’t fit the economic model of the Coliseum very well. Additionally, the items are suggestions for the progressions for a specific item. As a result, I’m not sure if pricing these example items make a lot of sense. For now, I’m not pricing them. They are on the list in case I change my mind.

All that said, the Arcana Unleashed does contain some truly interesting items, and a structured treatment of how to advance magical items is a very welcome addition to the game.

Powerful Items from Arcana Unleashed

• Dispelling Ammunition – Does what it sounds like, although not as powerfully as the magic spell.
• Grave Reaper – A magic sickle with a +2 bonus that deals extra necrotic damage and allows you to cast the new spell Soul Lantern. An exciting addition to any necromancers kit!
• Necklace of the Beastly Familiar – Multiple versions of this necklace allow you to case Find Familiar and then temporarily transform that familiar into a beast. At the lowest rarity you can get a giant octopus. At the top of the range, a tyrannosaur.
• Queen Ehlissa’s Marvelous Nightingale – An artifact of incredible power for the right type of spellcaster.
